Exclusive: “As A Fan, I Thought It Was Bullsh*t [For Andre 3000] To Say Ain’t No OutKast Plans In The Works”

With the recent heartbreaking news of Atlanta rap veteran Andre 3000 revealing there are no immediate plans for an upcoming OutKast album, SOHH decided to hit up the duo’s ATL affiliate Killer Mike for his reaction.
Speaking solely as a fan, Killer Mike admitted he was crushed by the OutKast update.
“Dre can rap and people have always appreciated that about him,” Mike told SOHH. “That’s cool, I’ll f*ck with it. As an OutKast fan, I thought it was bullsh*t to say ain’t no OutKast plans in the works. That’s just me as a fan, that’s bullsh*t. But that’s just me being a music nerd. I want to make sure people know I’m speaking as a ‘fan’ though. I’m not speaking as a guy who was signed to them with an opinion, I’m speaking as a fan. … When you hear Dre or Big Boi doing an interview, as an OutKast fan, you want to read, ‘We have a joint coming out, we have an album coming out,’ but not to hear that, it’s f*cking bullsh*t. [laughs] It’s not like it’s something I didn’t know. He said it to me before but I was just like, ‘Sh*t. I hope you change your mind motherf*cker.’ [laughs]” (SOHH)
Last week, Dre broke the news on there not being any urgency behind a reunion LP.
“There’s been a lot of talk on the Internet about an OutKast album and I have to say that as of now, there are no plans for another OutKast album. There’s a lot of music on the horizon. I’ve been living off the excitement of new artists. I’ve been privileged to have these new artists kind of reach out and grab back and say, “Hey, Andre, we want you on this song.” So I’ve been taking those calls and for the last two years, I’ve been doing collaborations. So these new artists have kind of been keeping me alive. I’ve just really been feeding off of that and this year I think I’m planning to do a solo project. I don’t know when it will come out, but hopefully it’ll come out this year. As far as OutKast, I really don’t know if or when that will happen.” (GQ)
Back in 2010, Big Boi said Andre’s decision to sway away from music scene delayed OutKast album plans.
“Let’s just be clear. The whole idea of recording this solo album came from Dre. It did not come from Big Boi. If it were me we would have done another Outkast record [laughs]. But Dre had just started doing movies and his clothing line and he wanted to focus on that. So he was like, ‘If we do the solo albums, it will make the Outkast albums mean that much more to the fans.’ And I was cool with that. I started Sir Lucious on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday in 2007.” (VIBE)
While he may not have any new Big Boi joint records, Three Stacks recently linked with Gorillaz and rocker James Murphy for a collaborative effort.
As part of Converse Inc.’s continuing “Three Artists. One Song” campaign, Gorillaz, former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy and Outkast rapper Andre 3000 have teamed up for an original track. “DoYaThing” will be released on Feb. 23, along with a new Gorillaz footwear collection designed by Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett for Converse. The Gorillaz partnership with Converse, which was initially announced last November, marks Murphy’s return as a vocalist after LCD Soundsystem officially disbanded last April, as well as Andre 3000′s latest feature after providing recent guest spots for Drake, Ke$ha and B.o.B. “DoYaThing” will be available as a free download on Converse’s official website. Big Pun. I definitely have to name Pun. The thing about Pun is you knew he was genuine. You knew that he was genuine and you couldn’t f*ck with him. That’s what made him so great. He could do the street, grimey records and then make records that all of the women would love without changing up.
Andre 3000. That dude is incredible. He’s an incredible lyricist. Not only is he an incredible lyricist, you don’t know what to expect from him. Whatever he delivers, you go “Oh wow!” He can travel outside of the box and you still enjoy it. He’s not just a great rapper, he’s a dope artist. He’s never disappointed me. He always goes in. I think he’s one of the best when you look at how he’s put it down with OutKast and he’s brought light to Atlanta. He brought a lot of shine to the town.
Jadakiss. Jada is consistent. He never disappoints. Jadakiss is also underrated. He doesn’t get his fair share. He’s a lyrical monster that’s consistent. When he rides a beat, he takes it over. He destroys it. That’s another person who never disappoints. He keeps delivering dope music, dope lyrics, dope content. He’s like a full package and he’s still around. He’s been in the game for a minute and can still put out new records.
Lil Wayne. I have to say Lil Wayne. I got Weezy in there because you never know what this guy is doing. You would have to be a hater to not realize what impact he’s having on the younger generation. He’s a trendsetter. You might not like what he’s doing, but you can’t hate on the impact he’s having. These kids are following him. When you have such a big influence, you have to be considered a major player. He’s been in the game for a minute, since he was a kid, so it’s only natural that he’s grown into the spot that he’s in now.
Wu-Tang Clan. Wu-Tang have brought something to the game that’s never been seen before. It’s not just music, but business-wise as well. The theme they brought to the table and the logo. It was all like, “Wow.” From the music to the videos to the Wu Wear and everything. They were just doing it.
