SOHH Whatcha Think: [Video] Obama Sings The Blues, Drops Mixtape, Game Loses Million?!

It’s officially been about 3 years: Did Miley Cyrus ever holla at Mack Maine? Ayo Miley: Quick duckin’ my man. Dude had the decency to wait until you were ripe and legal and you ain’t reach out yet? This has been the worst black history month ever.

Well. Maybe not. Barack saw the epic losses occuring throughout the month of February, stood tall and did what any real n*gga would do — sang the blues. Check out this video of the only president that represents me singing alongside the legendary B.B. King.

Now if that ain’t some fly sh*t, I don’t know what is. Wait yes I do: A President Obama Mixtape. Nowadays, everyone has a mixtape. I know n*ggas that attach their mixtape to their cover letter and job resume. I won’t even date a chick if she ain’t got a mixtape. So last year, when I predicted that Obama would drop one soon, I knew it was only a matter of time before my divine vision would come to pass.

Obama’s campaign team is stepping things up. Last week they published a 28-song 2012 campaign playlist on free online music library Spotify, a service which is not currently available outside the US and western Europe. (World Politics Blues)

The campaign mixtape features artists such as No Doubt, Jennifer Hudson and Bruce Sprinsteen. Whoa. Wait a second … You ain’t got no Yeezy n*gga?! SOHH Watcha Think … Should Hip Hop have been included in the Presidential Campaign Mixtape?

Shotout to Game: It’s hard out there for a pimp and it’s about to get even harder [pause]. The West Coast MC was ordered to cough up million (that’s 5000 thousand racks, for those who speak hip hop) to some North Carolina cops who sued the rapper for slander and libel. Cold World.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A North Carolina appeals court on Tuesday upheld part of a 2010 ruling that awards million in compensatory damages to five Greensboro police officers who filed a defamation lawsuit against rapper Jayceon Taylor, more commonly known as “The Game.” The officers filed the suit in 2006 against Taylor and Bungalo Records, Inc. The suit claimed the officers were libeled and slandered, and that their identities were wrongfully used in a documentary-style DVD produced by Taylor and Bungalo. The DVD was titled “Stop Snitchin’ Stop Lyin’.” The officers’ appearance in the DVD stems from an incident in October 2005. Taylor and his entourage were at Four Seasons Mall on the day the rapper was set to perform in Winston-Salem, but a mall security officer had asked them to leave for causing a disturbance. The security officer called police for help, and the officers ended up arrested Taylor for criminal trespassing, communicating threats, and disorderly conduct.(My Fox 8)

“I’ll Get His A** Jumped Again. I Don’t Like Yung Berg. I’m Sorry” [Video]

News: “I’ll Get His A** Jumped Again. I Don’t Like Yung Berg. I’m Sorry” [Video]

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

R&B singer Teairra Mari has lashed out at rapper Yung Berg over past comments he made about her personal affairs and denied ever being attracted him.

Talking to hip-hop personality Young Jack Thriller, Mari addressed her issues with Berg.

“You know what? I’ll get his a** jumped again,” Mari said in an interview when jokingly targeted as the person responsible for Yung Berg’s past robberies. “I don’t like Yung Berg. I’m sorry. [Why?] Because I did an interview with [New York radio station Power 105.1's] ‘The Breakfast Club’ and they told me, like, all this stuff Yung Berg was saying about me, like, putting my business out, saying — who I dated and who I was in a serious relationship with and I just feel like he violated my privacy. And if he ever goes back to Detroit, they will jump him again. … I’ve never even looked at him as an attractive person. I don’t even like light skinned guys.” (This Is 50)

Mari previously appeared on “The Breakfast Club” and hinted at her dislike of him.

Teairra Mari has reemerged onto our radar after appearing on Vh1?s “Love & Hip Hop.” The sexy singer assisted in helping Emily B. get passed her Kimbella debacle. Aside from being a reality star, Mari has a new album coming out under Rico Love‘s Division 1 imprint. After discussing business politics, The Breakfast Club brought up an interview with Yung Berg where he claimed she had given him her number.” Yung Berg is always too high off ecstasy and coke or whatever, he don’t know s**t bout me,” said Mari before realizing she might have but just didn’t call. (Black Celebrity Gossip)

Last year, Berg hit up SOHH and rated celebrity women on a scale from 1 to 10.

Amber Rose, on a scale of 1 to 10, I think she’s like a strong 9,” Berg told SOHH. “That’s not really my cup of tea just off the strength of me loving black women and I love women of all races and colors but I just think Amber is dope but she’s been with a couple too many celebrities. I would like something that’s just untampered with. Nicki Minaj? I think she’s dope. She’s a solid 7 or 8. I couldn’t really imagine myself having sex with Nicki Minaj or nothing like that because she’s got so many personalities, I wouldn’t know who I was f*cking but I think she’s an incredible artist and a beautiful young woman.” (SOHH)

He previously talked about falling back on rocking luxury jewelry in light of past robberies.

“On some real sh*t back in the day when I was buying those big a** chains and sh*t, I felt like that was a part of me being Yung Berg. But me growing up and being Christian, being Mr. Ward, and who I really I am, I toned down. I’m not going to be with the big gaudy chains because people would look and they would say ‘Well, this n*gga still ain’t learn his lesson.’ I learned my lesson. I’m going to have jewelry but it’s going to be more upscale and common. It’s not going to be catching just the nigga eye.” (VIBE)

“The Best Features Are J. Cole On ‘Let It Show’ And Nas”

The Score: “The Best Features Are J. Cole On ‘Let It Show’ And Nas”

Written by J. Bachelor

Young Money has finally given West Coast spitter Tyga the green light on his album, Careless World, as the oft-delayed disc lands in stores today.

Careless World his second studio album, has proven to be a labor of love for Tyga, who is riding high on the success of the album’s single, “Rack City.”

Tyga’s first official album on YMCMB has slowly built up a buzz over the last few months with his constant features and his hit “Rack City”. So it was no surprise to see his album get leaked last week. The leak was somewhat surprising as the album sounds pretty solid. The term “hard work pays off” should definitely become his motto because he worked very hard over the years and it has paid off with this album.(The Safe House)

Outside of his label mates, the Tyga exchanges bars with a slew of notable acts, including Nas, J. Cole and Wale.

The best features are J. Cole on “Let it Show” which is a hot a** record and Nas and Wale on “Kings and Queen” where the two steal the show. “Stupid Hoe” Nicki Minaj gives you here typical slut bars and Wayne still riding off his fame giving half ass bars still, which people just now realizing the two aren’t as great as they believed. Cons on the album is for every hot track is two wack ones. Too long as well, if your not a lyrical genius, having that many tracks with no standout rhymes makes half of this album irrelevant and it is. Also his with 15 plus tracks, you can get redundant with your rhymes and Tyga is more than redundant on this album. The production is a toss up, some are great and some sound like some Kanye knock-offs and beats made for Drake that he turn down and Tyga picked up. It’s diverse so I’ll give him credit for that and not all of them are just some bass driven tracks or for the club.(Hip Hop for Breakfast)

The production ranges wildly, going from epic-sounding club anthems to offering that are a little less colossal.

Production wise, this one’s all over the place, and exactly what you’d expect from a pop-inspired Young Money project. Its gimmicky and genre-bending. I’ll hand it to whoever engineered this one and did the mixing though, it’s impeccably done and as pro as it comes. However, the beat selection goes from wanna-be EDM to straight pop. There’s very little traditional hip-hop here, from a musical standpoint, which is probably most responsible for making this one feel nothing like a true hip-hop project. Objectively speaking, I could totally understand how some fans could really get down with it though.(This Beat Goes)

The rapper’s album has picked up momentum courtesy of its popular “Rack City” single.

“I think that the timing is right,” Tyga tells The BoomBox. “Having the No. 1 rap song out right now, I know my fans have been waiting for it and I’m ready to put it out.” To kick off its release, Tyga will head out on his Careless World Tour on the same day that the album drops. Although he’s been keeping a lot of the details around the album secret — he only fell victim to one leak by way of the song ‘King of Queens’ featuring Wale and Nas — he’s confident that fans will connect with the project. “I’m excited just to get it out and get it to fans,” he continues. “I still give people a little party music, but I feel like when you make albums different from mixtapes, [the] album needs to be more of a theme.” (The Boom Box)

Critics agree that while this album may not appeal to fans of lyrical hip hop, Tyga may hit his mark as Careless World is likely to be appreciated by those who prefer style over substance.

Overall this album is everything i wanted yet really surprised me at the same time. Especially the production is on another level. What bothers me is the amount of features because Tyga showed a lot of himself throughout this album and he should have had a couple more songs of his own. Though i hope this will be another success for Tyga and it won’t under perform. Please support Tyga by buying his album on itunes or in stores because bootlegging would just prove Tyga’s point of this world being careless. Thank you.(Music Justice)

If you’re a “real hip-hop fan” you’re not going to like this album, at all. But if you don’t want something where you have to really sink your teeth into it and try to decipher complicated lyrics, this one’s for you.(Airmax Music)

Nicki Minaj Gets Back To “Dirty” Raps In Leaked Pre-Fame Freestyle [Video]

News: Nicki Minaj Gets Back To “Dirty” Raps In Leaked Pre-Fame Freestyle [Video]

Tuesday, Feb 21, 2012 12:12PM

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

While fans are still embracing rap star Nicki Minaj‘s recent run in the pop world, diehard hip-hop heads can now feast their eyes on the Young Money star’s gritty rapping in a newly leaked “Dirty Money” freestyle music video.

In the new clip, Minaj is shown in a more street-geared attire and dropping witty rap lines.

Before Nicki Minaj was the queen of hip-hop, she was a tough, baseball cap-wearing spitfire from Queens, N.Y. Evidence of that recently surfaced online in an unearthed video called ‘Dirty Money.’ The clip was filmed during her grinding years as an underground rapper. Nicki is spitting hot fire over an instrumental to Terror Squad‘s song ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah.’ She raps, “Yes, I’m the one, the motherf–ing one / Hold more weight than the late Big Pun.” She then shows her lyrical versatility by flipping a few bars a cappella style. “Hood star broad / black Barbie doll / Pardon me, if the cockiness is bothering, y’all,” she raps. From watching the video, you can tell that even back then, she was ‘hood but still exhibited confidence in her lyrical flow. However, there are some folk who would contend that Minaj has lost some of her hardcore luster and is now a “hip-pop” rapper. (Pop Crush)

Some bloggers and websites are citing the clip as proof Nicki has fallen off from appealing to her hardcore hip-hop audience.

Alright, you scum, you daily trolls that roam about the Internet highway looking to rag on anyone that disses your precious Nicki Minaj, you fervent devotees that refuse to believe that the mental case MTV product sold out: we’ve got pure video truth here, and you can’t argue a word against the fact that she gave up everything she was for fame. Five years prior to her glamorous sell out for fantastical fame and female rapper claims, Nicki actually was rapping, and doing it well as you’ll see in the unearthed music video below where she does some acapella work and bars over “Dirty Money.” There’s no Frankensteinian cosmetic work, no vainglorious garb, and no bullsh*t–it’s straight Nicki, looking more like Jean Grae than a plastic cartoon of a failed hair metal frontman, and actually doing something to justify her female emcee claims. Here’s the video, the truth that Nicki sold out. Hope you enjoy yourselves. (Ology)

No stranger to leaks, the rapper’s new “Marilyn Monroe” record unofficially premiered online recently.

A new and unofficial track leaked to the web this week, in which the rapper appears to be channeling Barbie rather than her other male alter ego, Roman. The song is rumored to be titled “Marilyn Monroe” and features Minaj’s sweeter, softer vocals instead of the rapid-fire rhymes we’re accustomed to hearing from her. The song is likely unfinished, but this start certainly sounds promising. Minaj has a knack for straddling the line between hardcore rap fans and bubblegum pop lovers, with “Monroe” very clearly catering to the latter demo. (Billboard)

Outside of unauthorized releases, the rap star talked about her controversial religious-themed Grammy Awards performance from earlier this month.

“I don’t know what is the big issue?” she asked. The 29-year-old said her five-minute live rendition of her songs “Roman’s Revenge” and “Roman Holiday,” which included dancing priests, an exorcism and levitation, was just a part of a movie she’s writing. “You know how people write plays and movies? That’s what I did. I wrote that and I gave the world a tiny little preview of what was to come. And so I have to perform it on the set in which it would be in the movie, right?” she said. Minaj, who is known for her outrageous style, walked the Grammy red carpet in an oversized red robe with a man dressed as a pope at her side. She said her performance, which featured a film clip, was partly inspired by the 1973 movie “The Exorcist.” (Associated Press)

Ludacris Returns To Pimpin’ + Tyga’s CD Gets Released?!?

SOHH Whatcha Think: Ludacris Returns To Pimpin’ + Tyga’s CD Gets Released?!?

Tuesday, Feb 21, 2012 7:54AM

Written by Jeezis Peace aka Snack City

Everyone has that uncle that’s supposed to be getting out of jail soon. Problem is, he’s been “supposed to be getting out soon” for like the past 10 years. That’s what Tyga‘s album, Careless World, reminded me was: That bad uncle that was never gonna get released.

[Editor's Note: The views expressed in this column do not necessarily reflect those of SOHH]

I’m proud of Tyga. He pushed and pushed [pause], kept dropping mixtapes, kept trying out new singles and finally [I'm assuming] won a Superbowl bet against Birdman that earned him the right to drop his album. Welp. Today’s the day.

birdman-belee-dat-2012-01-11-300x300.jpg

ABOVE: Birdman vows to never bet on the Patriots again. Ever.

SOHH Watcha Think: Rack City is one of the hottest club joints out there right now and aside from his Young Money pals, Tyga’s new LP has features from Nas, J. Cole, Wale and a slew of others. Is the hood checkin’ for Tyga’s album?

In other news … Luda’s returning to the big screen with a film called Parkin’ Lot Pimpin’. According to reports, the film is about a heartbroken dude who decides to go for a night on the town after being dumped by his girl. Hmmm … now where have I heard this concept before?

drake-sad-2011-11-14-300x300.jpg

Rapper/actor Ludacris has reportedly been tapped to star in an upcoming film called Parking Lot Pimpin’. The movie reportedly centers around two friends who take a late night joyride after one of them (Luda’s character) breaks up with his girlfriend. No other participants’ names have currently been revealed to the media regarding the film. Filming is expected to begin in April. Ludacris has appeared in two of the popular Fast & the Furious films, Hustle and Flow and the Oscar-winning film Crash and on several television shows. (Hip Hop Blog)

Sounds like a Drake song to me, but Luda’s a funny guy so this might actually be good. I’ll be checkin’ for it.

In case you missed it, Chris Breezy and Rihanna have a song together, here’s the remix to “Birthday Cake.”

Kobe Bryant Caught K-I-S-S-I-N-G Ex-Wifey Or Telling ‘Er She Wasn’t W/ Him In The Gym?

Caption Diss: Kobe Bryant Caught K-I-S-S-I-N-G Ex-Wifey Or Telling ‘Er She Wasn’t W/ Him In The Gym?

Written by Bulldog Butters

For Caption Diss, the good ol’ folks at SOHH are back at it giving y’all, my loyal doggies, a chance to capture the final word(s). The “Best We’ve Ever Read” headline gets to hold down that Cap Diss crown for a whole week. Who run it?

SMH. Even as a loyal and diehard New York Knicks fan, I felt for Los Angeles Lakers’ “god” Kobe Bryant. I mean, it’s all about sports but when your personal affairs get put on blast and then have to get that Drake, “B*tch, you wasn’t with me, shooting in the gym,” treatment, or whatever he said, you know that it’s all on front street. But the minute I saw this photo of Kobe with his ex-wife, estranged wife, whatever, I was wild tight thinking, “This sucker doggy is back with homegirl?!” But as a few of my other doggies pointed out, the Black Mamba might be pulling a Kevin Spacey on all of us and really be faking the funk to save that paper. Not sure if y’all knew, but if those divorce papers get filed (they got ’til June), it’s a wrizzy for Bryant’s bank. We’re talking Antoine Walker-fast downfall. LOL. So y’all let me know what’s going on right here. Is Kobe back with his tail between his legs or is the Black Mamba fooling all of us, even Vanessa? Hmmmm………………….

LOL @DreNeal!!!!! Doggy, you sealed the deal with that Cap Diss from last week. Apologies to some of my regular doggies as the comments section is nearly finished (it’s either going to stay with the Facebook option or get upgraded one more time). I mean, let’s keep it real, Nicki Minaj went up and beyond with her Grammy set and I’m sure even LL Cool J had to pull her to the side to kick some game. Hate on doggy today, but LL’s been in the game since most of y’all were still in diapers. Just saying…..

caption-diss-winner-300x300-2012-02-17.jpg

Aight doggies, y’all know how we get down in here. Bonus points for any way y’all can get Jeremy Lin mentioned in the Cap Diss since he’s practically everywhere. LOL. Just kdding. Y’all doggies know how we do, think ‘em, diss ‘em, ink ‘em and submit ‘em into the comments section by Monday, February 27th!

“When You Have People Like Amber Rose & Kim Kardashian, You Have To Grow W/ What’s Going On”

Exclusive: “When You Have People Like Amber Rose & Kim Kardashian, You Have To Grow W/ What’s Going On”

Monday, Feb 20, 2012 2:00PM

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

With more and more non-traditional singers continuing to dip their feet into the R&B world, SOHH decided to hit up 112′s Slim to get his opinion on models like Amber Rose and Kim Kardashian stepping into the genre.

Slim also shared his thoughts on Young Money star Drake breaking through common standards and excelling as both an emcee and singer.

“When you have people like an Amber Rose and Kim Kardashian or whatever, I look at it like this; in this day and age, you have to grow with what’s going on,” Slim told SOHH. “You have people out there that are trying to touch every aspect of entertainment there is. For that right there, I can’t knock them. At the end of the day, they’re touching their dream. I look at it like, the sky is the limit. Go for it. You have people that probably told Drake, ‘No, you can’t sing ‘and’ rap.’ I followed him through his mixtapes — I find it very amazing that somebody from Toronto can come down and really embrace the Texas-feel of music and do a really good job at it. He mixed the style of where he’s from and what he’s going through, and really took it to a whole ‘nother field. I can’t knock it. As long as you believe in what you’re doing, then the sky is the limit.” (SOHH)

A few weeks ago, Rose unleashed her second single, “Loaded.”

Following her debut entry into the music scene with assistance from her beau superstar rapper Wiz Khalifa on “Fame”, socialite, model and now recording artist Amber Rose delivers her second entry in the world of recorded music with “Loaded.” The euro-dance tinged track produced by The Crew which features Amber dropping verses about how independently loaded she is isn’t my personal taste, but In the current state of music I think it will definitely work in the clubs and to be honest she doesn’t rhyme worse than some of the rappers being championed left right and center. (Soul Culture)

Although short-lived, Kardashian gave the music industry a shot last year.

“Basically, Ciara came to me and was like, ‘You’ve got to meet The-Dream,’” Kim explained in an interview. “I was not into doing a song. I thought, ‘Everyone kind of tries that, and it doesn’t really work out so well.’ So I talked to friends like Kanye and a few of my other musical friends, like this is their life. They gave me good advice. They asked me what I do for fun, and I said, ‘I go shopping, I hang out with friends.’ And they said, ‘We go to the studio for fun. Come have fun with us. Don’t think too much about it.’” Kim continued, clarifying that an album is not in the works: “There’s no album in the works or anything — just one song we did for the show, and a video Hype Williams directed,” Kim said. “Half of the proceeds we’re giving away to a cancer foundation, because The-Dream’s and one of my parents passed away from cancer. It’s just all having fun — with a good cause.” (Billboard)

Despite his knack for singing out anthems, Drake previously downplayed his crooning ability.

“I could never really take singing on the road the way I can take rapping on the road. I can’t get on stage and blow people away with my range and vocals. I’m a studio singer because I can convey emotion and I have unique melodies, so that’s kind of what I pride myself on, but that’s where it stops. I make music more for people to listen to rather than to hold me as an R&B artist. Not to wish that I couldn’t sing better. If I could sing like Trey [Songz] then yeah, I’d definitely just want to be a singer. If I could do anything, trust me, I wish I could just sit at the piano and sing.” (VIBE)

A week after rap star Nicki Minaj raised eyebrows with her controversial Grammy Awards performance, Atlanta’s Waka Flocka Flame has come to his mother’s ex-client’s defense.

Along with backing up Nicki, Flocka killed speculation suggesting she may be down with the Illuminati (devil worshipping).

“I ain’t got no thoughts on that, that’s bullsh*t. Honeslty, — n*ggas just make up names ’cause they don’t know people’s business,” Flocka said in an interview. “So they create business for people’s business. Like, if people stop being so nosy and stay out of people’s business, maybe the name Illuminati won’t be created. Honestly, they’re just making a lot of money off of that sh*t because they selling books to people that’s buying it, and that money is generating millions. I don’t believe in that sh*t. Salute to Nicki, I loved her performance. I love everything she does. Squad.” (Toronto Rappers)

A few days ago, Young Money’s Lil Twist also stood up for Minaj.

“I loved Nicki’s song and performance,” Twist beamed to XXLMag.com in New York City recently. “I love Nicki’s whole swagger. She doesn’t care what anyone else thinks. That’s what I really love about my sister and how she goes about herself. That performance was Nicki. That’s all I can, say–it was so Nicki.” (XXL Mag)

Catholic League president Bill Donohue recently aired out the self-proclaimed Barbie’s religious-themed set.

“Nicki Minaj, fresh off looking like a fool with Madonna at the Super Bowl, showed up last night (February 12) on the red carpet at the Grammys with a guy dressed like the pope. This was just a prelude of what was to come. Minaj’s performance began on stage with a mock confessional skit. This was followed by a taped video depicting a mock exorcism. With stained glass in the background, she appeared on stage again with choir boys and monks dancing. Perhaps the most vulgar part was the sexual statement that showed a scantily clad female dancer stretching backwards while an altar boy knelt between her legs in prayer. Finally, “Come All Ye Faithful” was sung while a man posing as a bishop walked on stage; Minaj was shown levitating.” (Catholic League)

Back in 2010, rap veteran Uncle Luke defended hip-hop mogul Jay-Z in light of his devil worshipping accusations.

“I don’t know any devil worshippers. And who knows, maybe Jay-Z and other rappers have some devil worshipers as fans. But that doesn’t mean entertainers are sacrificing virgins for Beelzebub. I didn’t even know who the Illuminati were until the Internet started buzzing that Jay-Z was one of them. It’s ridiculous. Jay-Z is a cool cat. He ain’t Hollywood. He is a regular guy. He is so f*cking grounded. It is a shame people want to link him to this conspiracy.” (The 305)
