SOHH asks two players to name their Top 5 rappers of all-time, then pits their lists head-to-head to see whose hip-hop picks reign supreme. To make things tricky, we’ve created a “Hall of Fame” of emcees (see right) who are universally respected and therefore may not be mentioned by either player.

Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name their Top 5 rappers of all-time. To make things tricky, we’ve created a “Hall of Fame” of emcees (see right) who are universally respected and therefore may not be mentioned. After Detroit phenom Elzhi clued us into his rap elite, Young Money’s Gudda Gudda informs us which rappers can get his gouda any time.

  • Andre 3000 has to go in there. Andre? Come on man. He’s one of those cats. If you’re from the South, Andre is not even a question. They raised all of us in the South. [And] you can’t leave Big Boi out [either]. If you’re from the South, OutKast has to be in your Top 5.

  • Pimp C has to go in there. And you have to have Bun B there too. There’s no way you’re from the South and they’re not in your Top 5. That just don’t make sense. They’re part of how we were raised being from down South.

  • D*mn. Let me get Lil Wayne in there. He’s definitely gotta go in there. I’m going to give my honest opinion not just because this is my n*gga and my friend. I just feel like he’s the most versatile artist. Ever. Period. In all aspects. There’s nothing he can’t do or talk about. There’s nothing he can’t do. That’s what makes him who he is. He’s just one of the most versatile artists, period. Nobody will ever match that. I don’t care who you name. Nobody’s gonna match him.

  • Who else, who else? Of course I have to put Jadakiss in there. You can’t have a Top 5 without Jadakiss. I always thought he was in the top three best rappers of all time. I just feel like people respect him, a lot of artists respect him but he still doesn’t get all of the respect he deserves in the rap game. So Jadakiss is always gonna be that underrated rapper to me.

  • Last one, I have to make this one right. I’ve got Outkast, UGK, Pimp C, Lil Wayne, Jadakiss and I got one more. Man. 8Ball & MJG. Those are some people that I was really raised on. 8Ball & MJG. They played a big role in everything that I love about hip-hop. Period. They’re just classic. Everything they did in the South, they did it on an independent level. That was just a real serious thing for me, as far as getting into hip-hop. I love 8Ball & MJG.

Gudda Gudda Can Take The Heat, “I’m Really Good At Toughening Things Out”

Exclusive: Gudda Gudda Can Take The Heat, “I’m Really Good At Toughening Things Out”

With the summer heating up and fans anticipating new music from Lil Wayne and Drake, SOHH recently hit up Young Money’s Gudda Gudda to find out if he feels pressure by his team.

Despite the platinum success of YM’s Nicki Minaj, Drizzy and Lil Wayne, Gudda Gudda said he always remains cool.

“Sometimes I don’t ever let [the pressure] bother me,” Gudda Gudda told SOHH about being on a label with rap stars like Drake and Nicki Minaj. “I’m really good at toughening things out and you’ll never see it in my face. You’ll never see the pressure on my face. I’m always going to remain calm and stay strong in any situation. I always will stand tall and do what I gotta do. Everybody’s working over here. We’re all trying to figure out when everyone’s going to be putting out albums. There’s Tha Carter IV coming, most likely you’re going to hear from Tyga. You’re definitely going to hear from [Lil] Twist and Tyga real soon. I’m thinking by the end of the year or top of next year you might hear from me and Jae Millz.” (SOHH)

Lil Wayne recently talked about his high hopes for Drake and Nicki Minaj.

Luckily for Wayne his superstar Young Money signees, Drake and Nicki Minaj, are sure to keep his pockets fat in his absence. In fact, Birdman, Jr. counts on it. “You already know what I expect,” Weezy says of Drizzy and Nick’s imminent success. “I expect to eat, and eat well. I expect [Drake] to be a lot more successful than he has ever been. I mean, this guy’s a superstar. He is the definition. That’s what I told y’all before he was: ‘That’s the definition of a superstar.’ And like Nicki, he’s only breaking ice. He has yet to be who he’s going to be. I’m banking on them.” (XXL Mag)

A few weeks ago, Drake announced plans to drop a new single this month.

“The single’s dropping a week-and-a-half, two weeks. It’ll be fun. It’s going to be a blast,” Drake told FADER writer Judnick Mayard. “It’s great. I’m really excited about it. Just trying out different things, different sounds, different flows… We’re all in a really great place in our lives just as a team, the team’s coming together. 40‘s doing really well. We’ve got new editions. We have this affiliation with The Weeknd. It’s really great. He’s on the album a bunch. I’m excited about it just for the people to hear the evolution of the music.” (The FADER)

In April, Minaj hinted at plans to announce her sophomore album.

“You’ll get another album within 12 months,” she told KIIS FM’s JoJo. “You’ll get the announcement for the next album in–and I’m saying the announcement–that you’ll get the announcement in September. That’s all.” But for now she’ll stay busy promoting her new single “Super Bass” and its video, set to arrive in the next week. Videos for “Did It On’em” and “Fly,” her collaboration with Rihanna, have also been shot. (Rap-Up)

Lil Wayne’s ‘Carter IV’ Will Measure Up To ‘Tha Carter III’, Says Gudda Gudda

Exclusive: Lil Wayne’s ‘Carter IV’ Will Measure Up To ‘Tha Carter III’, Says Gudda Gudda

With the anticipation for Lil Wayne‘s Tha Carter IV continuing to grow, SOHH recently hit up Young Money artist Gudda Gudda to get the inside scoop on what listeners can expect to hear.

Promising big things to come, Gudda said Weezy’s delayed LP will live up to fans’ high expectations and serve as a proper follow-up to 2008′s Tha Carter III.

“I think it’s going to be big and I’m not just saying that because he’s my homie,” Gudda Gudda told SOHH when asked about the delayed project. “I’m just being honest. I think it’s going to be big and it can match up to what Tha Carter III did. The expectations are really big and it’s going to be really big for hip-hop when it finally comes out.” (SOHH)

Gudda Gudda also gave props to other rap crews for the efforts to elevate hip-hop.

“I ain’t going to say hip-hop ain’t exciting right now because it is,” Gudda Gudda added. “You have people like Eminem and Shady Records making a lot of noise. You have [the artists on] G.O.O.D. Music making a lot of noise. Maybach Music really came out of nowhere and is making a gang of noise. It’s very exciting right now but I think Wayne’s getting ready to put that sh*t out there that we need. It’s good music. He’s going to drop that album and it’s going to get crazy.” (SOHH)

Recently, Lil Wayne revealed Carter IV may be his final rap album.

The Young Money leader also revealed to XXL that he plans to retire soon and hints at C4 possibly being his last offering. “I’m bowing out still on top,” he says. “I’ma make y’all want me when I retire. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘Nooo!’ I ain’t leaving out this b*tch when y’all be like, ‘Yeah, it’s about time, dawg.’ Carter IV might be my last one. I’ma make y’all be like, ‘F*ck!’ Yeah, n*gga, I’m gone.” (XXL Mag)

Despite leaking weeks prior to its June 2008 release, Wayne’s Carter III managed to sell over a million copies in seven days.

With opening day sales figures of approximately 223,000, the album sold 1,005,545 copies in its first week in the United States. With its first week sales, it is the largest first week sales for any album in 2008 in the United States and the first album to reach the million mark in one week since 50 Cent‘s The Massacre in 2005. (Wikipedia)

To date, Tha Carter III has sold over 3.5 million copies.

Tha Carter IV is slated to drop August 29th.

Gudda Gudda Co-Signs Kidd Kidd’s New Orleans Grind Tales, “He Wasn’t Lying”

Exclusive: Gudda Gudda Co-Signs Kidd Kidd’s New Orleans Grind Tales, “He Wasn’t Lying”

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

After recently speaking to Kidd Kidd about what it takes to make it in New Orleans, SOHH hit up Young Money’s Gudda Gudda to get his opinion on the rapper’s tales of grinding to success.

Agreeing with Kidd Kidd’s points, Gudda explained the difference between grinding in New Orleans as opposed to big cities like New York and Los Angeles.

“Yeah, it is [a struggle] and a lot different,” Gudda Gudda told SOHH about artists on the come-up in New Orleans. “First of all, New Orleans has to believe you. Whatever you’re talking about, they have to believe you otherwise no one is going to accept you. You can’t really just be rapping about a whole bunch of stuff and you ain’t walking it. They gotta believe what you’re saying or they will not support you. That’s how it’s been these past few years because I’ve been down there and I’m from there and I’ve seen other artists try but it doesn’t pop. If they don’t believe you, they’re not buying into your music. Period.” (SOHH)

He also agreed with Kidd Kidd’s New Orleans newcomers tips of branching outside of the city to create a buzz.

“Speaking of Kidd Kidd, we were in a group together called Sqad Up back in the day, when we were doing our independent thing. When we put out our mixtapes, we would go out on the road a lot and that’s how we got our name out there, by doing a gang of shows,” Gudda added. “We would go around cities and put our name out there. Kidd Kidd wasn’t lying either, you definitely have to get out of the city to get your music heard on a national basis. If you’re a brand new artist, you have to get out there on the road and get on your grind. Get out there and let people hear your music.” (SOHH)

Last month, Kidd Kidd hit up SOHH to speak on getting his music heard nationwide.

“There ain’t nothing down here. You already know that if you want to make it out of New Orleans, you have to be out somewhere in New York. You gotta be in Atlanta. You gotta be in Los Angeles. Something like that in order to be discovered. That’s how you’re going to get people to hear you. Nine times out of ten, the people out there in the record labels are scared to come down here. It’s wild down here. I was really blessed to even get out of the city for a minute and feed these people. We got a lot of talent out here but we’re stuck down here. We’re stuck. A lot of people don’t have the opportunity to get it out of the city and show off their talent. So we’re displaying our talent in the city but nobody is coming out and checking for us.” (SOHH Guest Star)

Around mid-June, Kidd Kidd made headlines for surviving multiple gun shot wounds.

“wuzzam man thank yall for keepin me in yall prayers n*gga hit me six times but dey aint stoppin nutin b*tch a** n*gga get ur refund I aint dead,” Kidd Kidd tweeted Sunday (June 12). (Kidd Kidd’s Twitter)
