Game Says We The Beessssssst, Calls Up DJ Khaled For Last Interscope LP

News: Game Says New LP’s The Beessssssst, Calls Up DJ Khaled For Last Interscope LP

Sunday, Apr 15, 2012 9:30AM

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

West Coast rapper Game’s final contractual Interscope Records album is gathering up star-studded appeal with DJ Khaled now helping co-executive produce F.I.V.E. (Fear Is Victory Evolving).

Game broke the news of Khaled’s involvement Saturday (April 14) afternoon.

“COOLANDDRE Just got off the horn wit @djkhaled & made it official. He’s co-executive producing F.I.V.E with me ! #WeDaBest #BW$MG #Epidemic,” he tweeted. (Game’s Twitter)

Production duo Cool & Dre also confirmed Khaled’s involvement on the record.

“Just got off the jack with @thegame and I’m proud to announce @djkhaled will be joining forces with us on FIVE! Oh it’s a problem now!,” they tweeted Saturday. (Cool & Dre’s Twitter)

While he has not made a decision yet, Game recently hinted at going independent after F.I.V.E.‘s release.

“Independent. That seems like a really, really good move where I can capitalize off of all the finances being made off of my music for once. But, I don’t know, I kinda like having a lot of help, a lot of assistance from a big label,” Game told MTV News. “I don’t know, maybe we’ll have a meeting about a lot of money or I’ll be talking to my conscience.” (MTV)

A few weeks ago, the platinum-selling rapper discussed his uncertain future following the LP.

“[Interscope Records head] Jimmy Iovine is, sh*t, probably weeks out from opening the budget for my fifth album,” Game added. “And then once I do this F.I.V.E. album, it might be a wrap. We’ll see. I know somebody going to give me some millions before I do anything. I see myself getting a lot of money to carry out the remaining time in my career. It don’t really matter where it’s at–it’s just the imprint on the back of the album.” (XXL Mag)

DJ Khaled Credits Jail For Sparking Miami Takeover, “It Woke Me Up”

News: DJ Khaled Credits Jail For Sparking Miami Takeover, “It Woke Me Up”

Monday, Mar 26, 2012 2:30PM

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Miami’s DJ Khaled recently discussed his come-up and why doing time behind bars actually helped him reach the amount of success he is able to enjoy today.

Reflecting on his pre-fame days, Khaled expresses that doing time for a charge he had in Orlando, FL ultimately led him to changing his life around and settling in Miami for good.

For a time, Khaled lived with his girlfriend’s mother, sleeping on the floor. He then went to her father’s, then to his car and, when he had money, cheap motels. He was also back and forth to New Orleans–working at a record store, forming a friendship with Cash Money’s Birdman back when the future stunna was still selling cassette tapes from his trunk–until he was jailed for about a month and a half for repeatedly driving with a suspended license. “I used to go to jail every weekend in Orlando,” he recalls. “I had a court date in Orlando–flew [in] from New Orleans. I didn’t know I was gonna go to jail when I went to court. You don’t expect that. You go to court thinking it’s going to be another fine, go to school. But the judge was like, ‘You not learning your lesson. You keep driving.’ It woke me up. I’m glad it happened. The day I got out is the day I moved to Miami.” (VIBE)

Back in 2010, Terror Squad’s Fat Joe talked about helping put Khaled in the rap game.

“We passed him the baton and let him go,” Crack said about Khaled. “What we do is try to help our brothers grow. He took it from there and he’s got the ‘We The Best’ thing and he’s doing his thing. I’m proud of him and we want him to do well. It’s just, you know, that’s how it is man. There are people who do things and there’s a lot of people givien out opportunities. Some people take it and go all the way with it and try to create history and some people are passive and don’t wanna work as hard and they take the same opportunities and sit on they a** and don’t do it. Khaled was the go-getter, he went up there and did what he had to do.” (Ozone Magazine)

A year prior, Joey Crack opened up on Khaled becoming Def Jam South president.

“No one has ever seen an executive like DJ Khaled,” Joe said in an interview. “Everybody in the music business who’s an executive has been polished for the job. Khaled comes with the energy that hasn’t been seen in this game, ever, from the day that f*cking Lyor Cohen and Russell Simmons opened Def Jam! He’s going to put out nothing but hits. And I expect him to be one of the biggest executives in a couple of years, the hip-hop game has ever seen. I guarantee he’s going to be an executive of a lifetime. Remember I told you.” (Complex)

Not only respected in the hip-hop community, Khaled previously received a co-sign to become Def Jam president courtesy of co-founder Russell Simmons.

The business mogul and co-founder of the historic hip-hop label told XXLMag.com that he thinks the Murder Inc founder would be one of three candidates fit for the job. “I like Irv [Gotti],” Simmons said. “I’d co-sign him. I like a lot of people lobbying. I like Irv, I like [DJ] Khaled. I’d co-sign [Violator Management President] Chris Lighty. These three people, I’d co-sign any of them in a second.” Gotti hasn’t been shy about throwing his name in the mix for the job, persistently mentioning that he would be the right man for the gig over the last few months. DJ Khaled Says Rick Ross Looking To Double Up In 2012

News: DJ Khaled Says Rick Ross Looking To Double Up In 2012

Monday, Feb 13, 2012 2:40PM

Written by Brock Bruiser

Despite last year’s health scare, rap giant Rick Ross apparently has no plans of taking it easy, as DJ Khaled has recently revealed that his cohort is prepping not one, but two rap releases for 2012.

The animated DJ told XXL that a release date for Ross’ fifth solo album will be announced shortly.

XXL caught up with DJ Khaled at BMI’s “How I Wrote That Song” panel discussion during Grammy weekend, and the DJ asserted, that despite delays, Rick Ross’ God Forgives, I Don’t album is coming very soon. “It’s coming,” Khaled told XXLMag.com about the project that was pushed back when Ross suffered two seizures late last year. “We about to give you a [release] date real soon. He was actually in the studio three days ago putting the final touches.”(XXL)

Khaled added that the grind doesn’t stop, as he and Ross are already hard at work at another release for the boss, set to drop after his oft-delayed God Forgives, I Don’t.

Khaled also revealed that he’s been in the studio with Rozay lately, working on another as-yet-titled album the Teflon Don plans on releasing in 2012. “I’m working on Rick Ross’s album, that’s also coming in 2012,” he said. Additionally, Khaled is working on his own upcoming Kiss the Ring project as well as protégé Ace Hood’s next LP. “Expect monster hits like ‘I’m on One’ and ‘All I Do is Win,’” he promised about his own set. “And when I say just as big, I mean when it hits radio and clubs it’s gonna be huge.”(XXL)

In a recent interview, Rozay said the continued success of his Maybach Music brand was his primary focus.

“Right now it’s just all about me remaining creative, keep putting this dream team together. That’s what I’m about and I think that’s what everybody out there should be about, get your ones up. Success is the quickest way to kill the enemy. … I’m always ’bout business; that’s why I’m here. I haven’t taken nothin’ personal since I came in the game and I think if you in this business and plan on having longevity in this you shouldn’t take nothin’ personal.” (MTV)

Last year, rapper Game revealed that at one time, he, Ross and Broad Street Bully Beanie Sigel flirted with the idea of forming a supergroup.

“Me, Rick Ross and Beanie Sigel [were going to call ourselves] ‘ESPN (Everyday Stacking Paper N*ggas),’” Game told XXL recently in New York. “That’s what it is. We entertained doing a group before, but then Rick Ross went crazy with the Maybach Music Group and he signed Meek Mill and all of them. So that reality didn’t come to pass. But that’s where it was when we did ‘Heavy Artillery.’ If you can imagine an album with us three.” (XXL Mag)

50 Cent Says Newest G-Unit Signing Is Mixture Of “DJ Khaled Or A DJ Drama”

News: 50 Cent Says Newest G-Unit Signing Is Mixture Of “DJ Khaled Or A DJ Drama”

Tuesday, Dec 6, 2011 4:30PM

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

G-Unit general 50 Cent has opened up on his new DJ Pauly D signing and why he sees the “Jersey Shore” reality show star being a cross between DJ Khaled and DJ Drama.

According to Fif, Pauly D had multiple opportunities outside of G-Unit but ultimately sided with the home responsible for Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo.

“When Pauly came by to see me, they had options. They had several places that they were going, and people that were interested in doing a deal with him. Obviously, the momentum from “Jersey Shore” was spun off into him being the first one to have his own independent series. They’re moving places and DJing in front of bigger audiences, and getting ready to make moves internationally, where the DJ is the star, overseas. When I sat with him, I saw the opportunities we could have moving forward, with brand extension and packaging the music…I look forward to it. I call him “the bridge.” He’s going to be something between what you would get from a DJ Khaled or a DJ Drama and what you would get from David Guetta.” (Rolling Stone)

This week, Pauly D credited 50′s non-stop music grind for motivating his decision.

“[He] was always been a mentor to me because I always played his music my whole life,” Pauly D told radio hosts Cipha Sounds, Peter Rosenberg and K Foxx. “And just his whole, his work ethic and everything like that and I just respected his hustle from day one.” (Hot 97)

Fif and Pauly D’s partnership was cemented last Thursday (December 1).

He’s talked about it, but now Pauly D is officially a member of 50 Cent’s music group. The “Jersey Shore” star officially signed to the rapper’s G-Note label Thursday. The label focuses on dance and pop music — a good fit for Pauly D, since he’s known as a DJ as well as a reality star. He’s been working in music since he was 16 and parlayed his success on the MTV hit series into becoming an in-demand DJ. Pauly D even joined Britney Spears for a few dates on her recent “Femme Fatal” tour as an opening act. 50 Cent said Pauly D was a “great addition to G-Note and G-Unit family” and called him smart and creative. (New York Post)

In late August, Pauly hinted at plans to hook up with 50 for a compilation project.

While on tour with Brit, the Jersey Shore cast member is working on an album with 50 Cent. “I’m focusing on music. That’s my my passion. I’m working with 50 Cent now. I’m gonna do an album with him.” “It’s going to be a little bit of everything,” Paul D tells Billboard.com when asked if he’ll be singing on the album. “It’s almost like DJ Khaled and kind of David Guetta but my own DJ Pauly D style.” (Billboard)

DJ Khaled & Rick Ross: Who’s The Boss?

[Editor's Note: The views of this column do not necessarily reflect those of SOHH.com]

SMH. Doggies, this week was tough, I won’t even lie to y’all. LOL. At first I had 5-0 Cent is my Cap Diss and then he got all emotional with the PSA and made me think, “Well, maybe doggy is really sincere about this whole feeding a million kids thing.” Then I had Lil Wayne as Cap Diss but had a change of heart after reading his dope GQ Magazine Q&A, just realizing doggy is legit and really about that skateboarding life. So, I kept thinking……who has been out there a lot over the past week? DJ Khaled! Rick Ross! LOL. Now look doggies, y’all know I’m first in line to vouch for the Boss but my question is, what’s up with Khaled getting all emo over him? Saying how much he loves him? Checking him out of the hospital? Telling Russell Simmons that he’s NURSING Ross? LOL!!!! WTF? Any doggies sensing a little bit of Guru and Solar right about now? LOL. I can’t be the only doggy thinking that, right? Well, maybe y’all can clarify what’s the real deal here. What’s going on with Khaled and Ross, doggies? Hhhmmmmmm………………………..

SMH and LOL @LUCIDMUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!! Doggy, I messes with you, on the real! LOL!!!!!!! For all of y’all amateurs out there, take notes. LUCID, you bodied that Drake Cap Diss last week. FINALLY! A doggy that wasn’t shook to have some fun and show that sometimes the more vague and less detailed Cap Disses can be big time winners. Come on, now, y’all doggies know Drake looks like, well, I’ll put it like this….didin’t Nicki once say, “If I had a d*ck I would pull it out and piss on ‘em?” LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @LUCIDMUSIC, glad SOHH awarded you on that. LOL!

caption-diss-winner-300x300-2011-10-21.jpg

Aight doggies, I know some of y’all have been asking what’s goodie with the Cap Diss prizes that used to go down. LOL. Don’t worry, I didn’t ruffle any feathers with SOHH, but what they said is they’re doing more of their giveaways via their Twitter page. So y’all make sure to check up on them: @SOHHDOTCOM and @SOHH, tell them Bulldog Butters sent y’all, too! I need a raise up in this joint. LOL. Just kidding. Aight doggies, y’all know how we get down. Think ‘em, diss ‘em, ink ‘em and submit ‘em into the comments section by Monday, October 31st aka HALLOWEEN! I’ll catch y’all on Friday!

DJ Khaled Refuses To Let Rick Ross Go, “I Am Not Leaving His Side”

News: DJ Khaled Refuses To Let Rick Ross Go, “I Am Not Leaving His Side”

Tuesday, Oct 18, 2011 9:05PM

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Miami’s DJ Khaled is keeping a close watch on Rick Ross days after the rap star experienced two seizures within hours of one another by promising to remain near him through his recovery.

In an exclusive interview with Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons, Khaled provided an update on his close friend.

“I am not leaving his side. He is resting, he is chilling and he is actually super focused. He is at the crib and is going to rest and just chill until he gets his energy back. He is going to take everything one day by day,” Khaled told Simmons. “I told him he has to stay home for two weeks. I told him he has got to just chill and reIax. I told him he is a big enough star that he can just stay home. His life is more important…When he went in the hospital that was a reality check. I’m trying to tell him, but he’s telling me, ‘Khaled you ain’t got to tell me no more, I understand clearly I got to take my life seriously.’” (Global Grind)

The “Boss” has reportedly chosen ground travel after experiencing his first seizure aboard a plane last week.

No more emergency landings … for now — TMZ has learned Rick Ross
will be traveling back home to Atlanta on his friend’s bada** tour bus … after suffering two in-flight seizures last week. Ross — who was hospitalized in Alabama Friday — was picked up by his friend DJ Khaled … who transported him to Memphis in his luxury tour bus for the opening of a chicken wing joint last night. Sources close to Ross tell us … Khaled has offered to take Ross back to Atlanta in the bus, so he won’t have to risk another in-flight emergency. (TMZ)

Ross and Khaled were spotted leaving a hospital Sunday (October 16) night.

Can we get a Rozaaaaaay? After being hospitalized two times in a single day, Rick Ross is now out and about and appears to be doing better. At approximately 9:30 p.m. ET, the Bawse’s DJ, Sam Sneaker tweeted a photo of the Maybach Music Group head honcho with the message: “The Boss is good…@rickyrozay #MMG.” Around the same time DJ Khaled sent out a separate but very similar photo via Twitter with the message: “My brother ROZAY!!IS GOOD!!! @rickyrozay @Iamguccipucci #powercircle.” In both photos Ross, Khaled and MMG’s Gucci Pucci posed in front of Rozay’s Memphis, Tennessee Wing Stop restaurant. Over the weekend, the “Boss” canceled a North Carolina appearance in light of his medical condition.

Rick Ross pulled out of a scheduled concert in Greensboro, NC on Saturday night, citing health concerns a day after reportedly suffering seizures on two different flights. A spokesperson for the Greensboro Coliseum Complex tells Fox affiliate WGHP that the rapper canceled less than an hour before the NC A&T homecoming concert was set to begin. The Greensboro concert went on as schedued, with DJ Khaled and Marsha Ambrosius on the bill. Ross’ next scheduled performance is Friday, Oct. 21 at The Tabernacle in Atlanta. DJ Khaled Reveals Post-Seizure Rick Ross Convo, “I Told Him, ‘Man, I Love You.’”

News: DJ Khaled Reveals Post-Seizure Rick Ross Convo, “I Told Him, ‘Man, I Love You.’”

Saturday, Oct 15, 2011 9:17AM

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Miami’s DJ Khaled has revealed a short conversation he had with Maybach Music Group leader Rick Ross shortly after sending shock waves to the entire hip-hop community after suffering a seizure on Friday (October 14).

According to Khaled, he found out about Ricky Rozay’s medical complication online and immediately reached out.

“I got the news like everyone else did. But when I talked to him I didn’t ask him what happened. I didn’t ask him about specifics… I just told him, “Man, I love you. Are you okay?”, says Khaled. “And Ross was like “Man, you trippin… I’m good.” He was like “We got to get this album done, MMG, Powercircle, We The Best, let’s go!” (VIBE)

Not only on the mind of Khaled, but even Ross’ rap nemesis 50 Cent wished him the best.

Long time nemesis 50 Cent also weighed in asking that Ross take care of himself. “Yea he gotta take care his self,” responded Fif to a fan who asked if he had any words on the Ross situation. Past collaborator Drake tweeted a succint message reading, “Prayers for Rozay.” Texas rap vet Bun B also called for calm and prayers for the Maybach Music Group boss. “Pray for my brother @rickyrozay It might not be serious at all, but let’s pray for him anyway,” tweeted the Underground King. A Tribe Called Quest front man Q-Tip chimed in with, “Prayers up 4 @rickyrozay homie rest up. Your health is bigger than bizness.” (RapFix)

Despite the Boss’ confidence, he experienced a second seizure shortly after leaving a hospital.
