Following the Billboard honor, Cash Money’s Birdman issued a statement accepting the accolade.

“We got so much more we need to do,” Birdman says. “We dominate rap, but we need to dominate R&B. We need to dominate pop, gospel, country–we’re a brand, so we should be able to put out all these different types of music. We just got to keep grinding.” (Statement)

Rather than focusing purely on selling ability, Billboard’s Power list centered on business success and power moves.

The Billboard Power 100 list is about more than album and ticket sales; the artists featured are all actively involved in making impactful business decisions for their careers. In the case of Beyonce, she has recently been behind multi-million-dollar branding deals with L’Oreal, Coty and Target, and her clothing line House of Dereon continues to boast an international presence. Meanwhile, Jay-Z is one of the most celebrated artists to make the jump from the stage to the boardroom. He served as CEO of Def Jam Records and, in 2008, brokered a deal with Live Nation (said to be worth 0 million) to create Roc Nation, a management, music and entertainment company with a roster that includes Rihanna, J. Cole, Willow Smith and Ester Dean. His interests outside of music (Rocawear, Translation Advertising and stakes in 40/40 Club and the New Jersey Nets) have also grabbed headlines and helped to feed his bottom line. (Billboard)

Young Money Prez Reveals Lil Wayne’s Upcoming Albums, “He’s In Martian Land Right Now”

News: Young Money Prez Reveals Lil Wayne’s Upcoming Albums, “He’s In Martian Land Right Now”

Monday, Oct 17, 2011 11:11PM

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Young Money President Mack Maine is keeping fans on their feet by announcing Lil Wayne‘s plans to drop follow-ups to last year’s I Am Not A Human Being and Rebirth albums.

While not giving out too many details, Maine said Weezy has taken his musical talent to another level for this set of projects.

Young Money Records President Mack Maine exclusively revealed to MTV News that not only is Weezy about to lay down tracks for a sequel to his Rebirth rock album, but the “How to Love” hitmaker is already knee-deep in recording a follow-up to 2010′s I Am Not a Human Being LP. “He’s, like, 12 songs in, and he went crazy. He went left. He’s in Martian land right now,” Mack said of I Am Not a Human Being 2. “On I Am Not a Human Being, he is definitely showing some weirdo, left-brain, I’m-not-from-here type side. He can say what he wants. There are no boundaries, there are no limits.” (MTV)

In late September, Maine said Weezy’s next retail project would be his joint LP alongside Dipset’s Juelz Santana.

“The next project he’s working on is I Can’t Feel My Face with [Juelz Santana],” Maine revealed in an interview. “Elz is talented man. He’s a young legend. [Wayne's] back working in the studio. He has that and the Young Money album.” There is no release date for that long talked about effort, however, Mack says that another Wayne spearheaded disc will probably drop before the end of this year. (XXL Mag)

Last year, Weezy’s I Am Not A Human Being album debuted within the Top 3 nationwide music releases.

Imprisoned rapper Lil Wayne’s digital-only I Am Not A Human Being release debuted on the chart this week at No. 2 while Kenny Chesney‘s Hemingway’s Whiskey opened atop the competition with 183,500. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Wayne’s album has sold 110,300 copies in the past seven days. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

Months prior, the Louisiana rapper’s Rebirth rock album also debuted at No. 2.

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne’s Rebirth debuted on the charts landing at No. 2. After seven days in retail stores, the rapper’s experimental rock album was able to shell out 176,000 records. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

Diddy & Jay-Z Land On Forbes’ 25 Highest Paid Musicians List

News: Diddy & Jay-Z Land On Forbes’ 25 Highest Paid Musicians List

Sunday, Jun 19, 2011 10:23AM

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Music moguls Jay-Z and Diddy have once again reigned supreme against their hip-hop competition becoming the only two rap acts to land spots on Forbes‘ 25 Highest Paid Musicians list.

While they both missed out in Top 10, Jigga and Puff shared the remainder of the list with R&B singers Beyonce, Usher and Rihanna.

1. U2 2. Bon Jovi 3. Elton John 0 million 4. Lady Gaga million 5. Michael Buble ( million) 6. Paul McCartney ( million) 7. Black Eyed Peas ( million) 8. Eagles ( million) 9. Justin Bieber ( million) 10. Dave Matthews Band ( million) 11. Toby Keith ( million) 12. Usher ( million) 13. Taylor Swift million) 14. Katy Perry ( million) 15. Brad Paisley ( million) 16. Tom Petty & the Heartbreaks ( million) 17. Jay-Z ( million) 18. AC/DC ( million) 18. Sean “Diddy” Combs ( million) 18. Beyonce ( million) 18. Tim McGraw ( million) 18. Muse ( million) 23. Rascal Flatts ( million) 24. Kenny Chesney ( million) 25. Rihanna ( million) (Forbes)

Earlier this year, Jay and Puff earned spots on Forbes‘ Top 5 Wealthiest Rappers list.

When it comes to net worth, Jay-Z is number two. The top spot goes to Sean “Diddy” Combs, who tops our accounting of rap’s richest with a fortune of 5 million, fueled by his interests in Sean John clothing, Bad Boy Worldwide record label and, most significantly, his Diageo joint-venture vodka brand Ciroc. Jay-Z ranks a close second, with 0 million. Super producer/rapper Dr. Dre ranks third with 5 million, fueled by past earnings generated from his own career and by helping to launch those of Snoop Dogg and Eminem. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, a onetime Dr. Dre protege who reaped a nine-figure payday from the sale of Vitamin Water to Coca-Cola, rounds out the top five in a tie with Cash Money Records co-founder Bryan “Birdman” Williams at 0 million. (Forbes)

Diddy later came forward and downplayed the recognition.

“To be honest, on that list, I was on the cover of Forbes back in ’98,” Diddy explained in an interview. “I been on that list. I don’t really get caught up into the list. I think people think that I have that money actually sitting at home in the basement…It’s really like if I sold all my companies, and I take pride in [building] something as a black man that’s worth that much…To everyone calling me for a loan today, I do not have that money today! … It helps inspire people and it shows the power of hip-hop.” (MTV)

Despite making it into the Top 5 list as well, Cash Money Records’ co-founder Baby recently argued his projected worth.

“I don’t know how they tally up,” Baby said in an interview with Uptown Angela referring to Forbes’ list.”To my knowledge I thought it was down. They said I made a 0 million dollars. I don’t know where they get that sh*t from. I’m banking in more than a 0 million. That’s a low number for a n*gga like me. But it’s cool. For anybody to recognize anything is respected. We know what to do. The goal in our life and my life is to be a billionaire. I’m flipping hundreds. I ain’t that far. I’m about eight steps.” (Urban Radio NO)
