“You Can’t Tell Me Hov Isn’t Like Tony Stark. He Makes Power Moves, Rich As F*ck, You Can’t Tell Him Anything”

Erick Sermon:

Erick Sermon (The Avengers)

Captain America – Jay-Z. When you’re thinking about Captain America, whose wordly with that type of stature, I gotta go with Jay-Z. I’d like to say Biggie Smalls, but he’s not here.

Hulk -Busta Rhymes. The energy that the Incredible Hulk has, Busta Rhymes’s got that.

Iron Man – Ghostface Killah. You have to say Ghostface is Iron Man. That’s the name he goes by.

Thor – DMX. He has that same power as Thor. He’s got that.

Lisa Raye:

Lisa Raye (The Avengers)

Captain America – Jay-Z. Jay-Z ’cause he’s that all-American guy.

Hulk -Kanye West. Kanye West ’cause he got that kinda ego. He’s a sm all guy, but he got a big ego.

Thor – My friend, Ludacris.

Black Widow: Lil’ Kim. Lil’ Kim since Biggie’s not around anymore.

Tank:

Tank (The Avengers)

Hulk – Tank. I’m Hulk, Hulk smash becuase I’m a gorilla! I’m an animal! It is what it is. Once you turn me into the Hulk, you can’t control me.

Captain America – Ginuwin. It would have to be Ginuwine. He’s always trying to love everybody and do the right thing. He’s for the people. He can get ugly, don’t get it twisted, he can get strong and ugly, but he’s for the people. He’s Captain America.

Ironman – Tyrese. It’d have to be Tyrese. He’d love to put on the suit. He’s an actor. He’d love to put on the suit and be flying around. He’d love to use the Ironman, who’s not Ironman, he’d love to use the swag, the Tony Stark’s swag. That’s his thing. He’d eat that up.

Thor- Columbus Short. I’m not even going to go with a singer. I’m going to go with an actor. I’m going to go with Columbus Short. He would be Thor because there’s a side to him you don’t really know. You would look at him and you’re like, “Oh okay, he’s about a little bit.” And then he turns it on and he’s a monster. He’s trying to tear things up and he can sing. In case anybody didn’t know.

Trae Tha Truth:

Trae Tha Truth (The Avengers)

Captain America – T.I.

Iron Man – Bun B.

Thor – 2Pac.

Black Widow – Nicki Minaj

XV:

XV (The Avengers)

Captain America – 50 Cent. We know Captain America for his shield the same way we know 50 Cent for his bulletproof vest. But Captain America is super dated, and kind of stuck in a time capsule and has not been able to progress with the current superheroes. But he’s a classic so it doesn’t matter.

Hulk – Kanye West. A nerdy dude who used to just stay in the lab becomes a beast. That’s Kanye’s story isn’t it? Also, he’s his own worst enemy, he can do anything he really wants, and he works well with others but doesn’t HAVE TO.

Iron Man – Jay-Z. You can’t tell me Hov’ isn’t like Tony Stark. He makes power moves, he’s rich as f*ck, you can’t tell him anything, people love to hate him, he embodies all of the traits that Tony Stark has.

Thor – Andre 3000. Thor is a God. That’s Andre 3000, he looks down on us as mere mortals but every now and then he’ll come down and lend a hand. And you know that he’s gonna f*ck sh*t up no matter what. Because…he’s Thor!

Hawkeye: Drake. I could just imagine Drake being thrown into the film for eye candy, and they WOULD give that n*gga some arrows. But dude is raw, and a f*ckin’ sharp shooter with it, so it doesn’t matter.

Black Widow: Nicki Minaj. We can all agree that we’d make this placement just for the skintight suit. Nothing else to be said about that one.

“Someday Drake Won’t Sound The Way He Used To. I’ll Do Anything In My Power To Still Sound Relevant”

News: “Someday Drake Won’t Sound The Way He Used To. I’ll Do Anything In My Power To Still Sound Relevant”

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Young Money star Drake speaks on hip-hop longevity and the inevitable future which exists with most hip-hop artists in their careers within the new issue of VIBE magazine.

Based on an excerpt from his feature, Drizzy admits his sound will change, for better or worse, as time passes.

But when it comes to tossing off disses, Drake’s not above delivering his own veiled swipes these days. On “Dreams Money Can Buy,” he surveys the hip-hop landscape and decides he’s sorely disappointed by what he sees. “Lately it went from top I’ve to remain- ing I’ve,” he rhymes. “My favorite rappers either lost it or they ain’t alive.” He stops short of mentioning names, but doesn’t back away from his declaration. “I wasn’t in rap when I was idolizing a lot of these people,” he says. “But times change. People don’t sound the way they used to. It’s inevitable. Someday Drake won’t sound the way he used to. I’ll do anything in my power to still sound relevant, but unfortunately Drake may not. And yes,” he says with a chuckle, “I referred to myself in the third person.” (VIBE)

Recently, Texas’ DJ Michael “5000″ Watts hit up SOHH and gave his impression on artists like Drake embracing the Houston sound in their music.

“I think it’s a beautiful thing to have people from outside Houston and embrace everything we’ve done. I don’t take it as an insult. People like Drake, A$AP Rocky and others pay homage to the whole chopped and screwed sound and Houston movement,” Watts told SOHH. “It really keeps Houston alive and helps make sure what we’re doing is brought to the forefront.” (SOHH)

While loved by many, some artists have gone out of their way to disclose their issues with Drizzy, most notably rapper DMX.

“No, no,” X said when asked if he likes Drake. “I don’t like anything about Drake. I don’t like his f*cking voice. I don’t like what he talks about, I don’t like his face, I don’t like the way he walks, I don’t like nothing. I don’t like his haircut. I might just — let me shut up. Stop right there.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

Despite the critics, Drake has been able to win over fans as is evident in his Take Care album’s retail success.

Young Money rapper Drake’s Take Care fell a notch to No. 13 with 26,000. Headed into his 16th week, Drizzy’s sophomore LP has moved 1,495,400 records. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

Following the Billboard honor, Cash Money’s Birdman issued a statement accepting the accolade.

“We got so much more we need to do,” Birdman says. “We dominate rap, but we need to dominate R&B. We need to dominate pop, gospel, country–we’re a brand, so we should be able to put out all these different types of music. We just got to keep grinding.” (Statement)

Rather than focusing purely on selling ability, Billboard’s Power list centered on business success and power moves.

The Billboard Power 100 list is about more than album and ticket sales; the artists featured are all actively involved in making impactful business decisions for their careers. In the case of Beyonce, she has recently been behind multi-million-dollar branding deals with L’Oreal, Coty and Target, and her clothing line House of Dereon continues to boast an international presence. Meanwhile, Jay-Z is one of the most celebrated artists to make the jump from the stage to the boardroom. He served as CEO of Def Jam Records and, in 2008, brokered a deal with Live Nation (said to be worth 0 million) to create Roc Nation, a management, music and entertainment company with a roster that includes Rihanna, J. Cole, Willow Smith and Ester Dean. His interests outside of music (Rocawear, Translation Advertising and stakes in 40/40 Club and the New Jersey Nets) have also grabbed headlines and helped to feed his bottom line. (Billboard)

Prodigy Says Jay-Z’s All About The Benjamins, “The Side He Chose Is Money, Power & He Doesn’t Really Care…” [Audio]

News: Prodigy Says Jay-Z’s All About The Benjamins, “The Side He Chose Is Money, Power & He Doesn’t Really Care…” [Audio]

Mobb Deep’s Prodigy recently shared his input on rap star Jay-Z‘s success as of late and why the Roc Nation leader has totally placed emphasis on money and power.

Reflecting on his past rap nemesis, Capital P said Young Hov is only about self empowerment.

“Jay-Z is just one example and one of the biggest examples of artists in the music industry, because he’s so popular and so big…He knows what time it is, he just doesn’t promote it. From the looks of things, it looks like he has chosen sides. He’s chosen a side and the side he chose is money, power and he doesn’t really care to spread the information that might save some body’s soul.” (Alex Jones)

A few months ago, Hovi opened up about his feelings on success and the criticism he has received in the past.

“It may sound arrogant,” he says, “but I just think people can’t handle when somebody is successful. Something has gotta be wrong: you gotta be down with some higher power. And I guess when someone else is successful, it makes you feel like maybe you’re a failure. So it can’t be you, it has to be some other force.” (Sky)

Last year, Grammy-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco said he did not want Jay’s level of fame.

“Jay-Z’s a personal friend of mine,” Lupe said in an interview. “[He] executive-produced my first album. [My comments were] just an example using him of how people rate success. There’s an idea of the status quo that every rapper wants to be Jay-Z. Nah. Every rapper does not want to be Jay-Z. Every rapper don’t wanna be Kanye West. Everybody don’t wanna be Lil Wayne. They wanna be who they are. … You’re a fool trying to chase that success down and manage it like that. I always look at my success as further than a dollar sign, further than record sales. … Everybody thinks because you’re black and you’re from the ‘hood, you wanna be Jay-Z. There’s kids who wanna be astrophysicists and don’t care about rap. That should be OK. You should be OK just being you, working your regular job and being happy. That’s why I made that statement. I felt it need to be said.” (MTV)

In 2010, Hov made Billboard history by having the most Top 10 singles of all-time.

Jay-Z’s “Young Forever” rounds out the top 10, jumping from No. 12 to No. 10. He now leads all rappers with the most to top 10 singles ever. He’s got 17 under his belt. Before “Young,” Jay’s 16 tied him with Ludacris. Luda’s on his heals, though. His “My Chick Bad,” featuring Nicki Minaj is at No. 11 this week. (Entertainment Weekly)

The Clipse’s Malice Announces Name Change, “The Power Of The Tongue Is Life & Death” [Video]

News: The Clipse’s Malice Announces Name Change, “The Power Of The Tongue Is Life & Death” [Video]

Thursday, May 26, 2011 9:08AM

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

The Clipse’s Malice has revealed plans to undergo a new rap alias change after realizing his current name does not live up to the lifestyle he wants to represent.

While a name change is imminent, no immediate alterations have taken place as of now.

“I’m not a malicious person, and I don’t really like answering to that. I know that people that follow The Clipse or follow my music, they know Malice, so I understand that, I get that,” Malice said in an interview. “But you don’t want to be under any moniker that’s of evil intent, that’s not you. I come to more believe that there’s so much power in the tongue. The power of the tongue is life and death, so I believe if you are what you fall under whether it’s in your subconscious or not. It’s just me trying to clean up a little bit. But I haven’t thought of that name yet. So Malicious is what it is right now.” (Ruby Hornet TV)

Known for changing his moniker from Puff Daddy to P. Diddy, Diddy recently announced plans to go under the new name ‘Swag.’

“Check it out, so I decided I’m going to change my name for a week in honor of my comeback,” Diddy revealed in a video. “Y’all know I’ve been known as Puff, Puffy, Puff Daddy, Diddy, P. Diddy, King Combs, earlier it was Sean Combs, and for a week, this week only, call me by my new name, ‘Swag.’ Check it out. My new name is Swag.” (P Twitty TV)

Last year, Young Money’s Nicki Minaj announced a new rap alias.

“I’ve officially changed my name and will only respond….to Roman. Roman Zolanski. Out.” (Nicki Minaj’s Twitter)

In 2009, Game confirmed speculation about taking “The” off of his moniker.

“It’s just Game now, I took the t-h-e off, you know what I’m saying,” Game confirmed in an interview. “I’m just coastin’ through, day-by-day, somebody got a script, I’ma read it, if it fits me, hopefully I’ll get it. I’m just day-by-day right now.” (Hip Hollywood)
